I've adopted the "technology will be the death of us all" stance in the past few years. A couple of people have argued with me about it (all scientists, of course); a couple more have been so brave as to point out the hypocrisy in my claim. But I stand by it, and here is but a small portion of the why behind this statement.

meh...I don't necessarily disagree with your claim in principle...but I don't think technology has to be...as an engineer, I am intimately familiar with Chernobyl and other 'engineering disasters'. The were ridiculously stupid...a combination of bad management and bad safety precaution. US plants have much better precautions. If ours leak, you'll never know because of the containment vessels. Although the media will probably blow it out of proportion. Plus the USSR cares squat about human life...it's why they didn't have the safety.
